Project: THRONE

This was a challenging group project involving the development and production of a piece of aesthetically pleasing (but not functioning) paper furniture without using tape for construction. Initial testing of paper structures discovered that cylinders had sufficient strength properties, resulting in a design that used cylinders as a repeating pattern to remain stable. We also decided to create a colour pattern by using a beige-tint paper to contrast the white paper down the centre of the seat and backrest. Next, we focused on creating the aesthetic of upholstery stretched over paper rolls and worked as a team to construct the chair before the deadline.

The manufacturing process was challenging due to the different schedules of everyone working in the group. However, we collaborated well and created a production line for the paper tubes which became the central structure of the throne.
